The American poet and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson set a high standard for gift givers during his time. Those of us who pride ourselves on being do-gooders should do the same, both as a giver and a receiver.
According to Emerson, “The poet brings his poem; the shepherd, his lamb; the farmer, corn; the miner, a gem; the sailor, coral and shells; the painter, his picture.” And the do-gooder should bring—however small–his or her hope for a better world.
So today, on Valentines Day, think about doing a few random acts of kindness and Spread the Love!
