If You’re Not 5 Minutes Early, You’re Late!

For those of you that know me, you know that one of my biggest pet peeves is people being late.

High performance has everything to do with timing. In the military being on time is already late. A good soldier is always five minutes early for anything, and that’s a matter of life or death in the field (imagine missing a critical piece of information shared 5 minutes before an operation?).

Of course in business things are not that extreme (at least not apparently), but think about how many meetings you showed up on time and people were already chatting. Doesn’t that feel like you are losing some opportunities?

In terms of your brand, there’s absolutely nothing more critical than earning the respect of people. What punctuality does to your brand is so powerful that even if what you say is not that smart, people will respect you for the sole fact that you were punctual.

Why do people respect punctuality? Because they know it requires sacrifice to achieve it. It’s not easy to skip those 5 extra minutes in bed, or to eat quickly at lunch. But the truth is that it takes absolutely no talent to be on time, it’s a matter of habit and once you understand the rewards for being on time you’ll never stop doing it.

Make it a great day!
