Happy International Women in Engineering Day!

Did you know, International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) was launched in the UK in 2014 by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) to celebrate the achievements of women in engineering and to inspire more girls and young women to consider careers in the field. Originally a national campaign, it quickly gained international recognition and became a global awareness day by 2017, officially named International Women in Engineering Day.

The date, June 23rd, commemorates the founding of WES in 1919, which was established in the aftermath of World War I when many women who had taken on engineering roles during the war were expected to return to traditional domestic roles. WES was created to support women who wanted to continue in the profession and to promote gender equality in engineering.

Since its inception, INWED has grown into a worldwide celebration, highlighting the contributions of women engineers through events, campaigns, awards, and stories shared by individuals, companies, and organizations. It serves as both a celebration of progress and a reminder of the ongoing need to increase representation and inclusion in engineering.

Today we celebrate the incredible achievements of female engineers around the world who are breaking barriers, building the future, and inspiring generations to come. Your innovation, resilience, and leadership continue to transform industries and challenge outdated norms. Keep pushing boundaries, lifting each other up, and showing the world the power of women in engineering. The future is brighter because of you!

Make it a great day!
