Leaders lead by setting an example, not by their words or by setting rules and regulations for people to follow.
A true leader practices what they preach and isn’t afraid to get his or her hands dirty once in a while. The old saying “actions speak louder than words” is so true in leadership. When people see that you are willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done, they will do just about anything to help you get there, and be part of your team.
So, don’t set your team up to pull an all-nighter for that very important client and then leave them to it. Roll your shirt sleeves up and show them what you are made of. You will gain their respect and have a great bonding experience overnight. And yes, they will talk about you the next day, about how great it was to have you helping out and not about you being the cause of their lack of sleep!
