Good morning ,
I am a member of a national organization called NNCREW, (National Network of Commercial Real Estate Women) as well as the local Dallas chapter. I am honored to be a past president of the local chapter as well as an Outstanding Achievement Award Recipient, an award given to a member who has achieved outstanding accomplishments in her field as well as in the industry, philanthropically and in the community.
Last week I was asked by the membership committee to host an event in my home which they smartly titled “CREW EmpowerMEnt”. The cast consisted half of Past President’s and/or Outstanding Achievement Award Recipient’s of the CREW Dallas chapter and half “Associates” of the chapter. An “Associate” is a member of the chapter with four (4) or less years of experience in the commercial real estate industry. I, for one, thought this was a brilliant idea. It was a great opportunity for the Past Presidents and OAA’s to spend some quality time together and a unique and unbelievable opportunity for some young and new talent in the business to hear from some of the best of the best.
The ticket to get it – if you are a Past President and/or OAA – bring one piece of advice for your younger self; if you are an Associate – bring an ask, something you would like to know. More proof that Women are continuing to help Women.
Well, sometimes what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but here is what I can share.
- Take advantage of each other and take advantage of lessons learned
- Know your client
- It’s ok to be afraid
- Respect yourself first, then others will respect you
- Don’t burn bridges
- Take that you are different and use it to your advantage
- It’s all about motivation
- Work harder
- Use your network
- Check your personal life at the door
- Don’t end your sentences with a question
- Men don’t get it until it personally relates to them
- Trust your instincts
- It’s 100% about relationships
- It’s natural to want to help others – learn that at an early age
- Get into a business development role early in your career
- You get what you give
- Diplomacy – it’s not what you say but how you say it
- Do unto to others as you would have them do unto them
- Make new friends and keep the old
- Be true to yourself
- Life is seasonal
- Stay in the moment
- Treasure your reputation and guard it with your life
- Asking for help is not failure
- Learn from others
- Take quiet time
- Admit when you make a mistake
- Ask for the business
- It’s not about you
- Take the risk
- Failure is final and success is never ending
- Always, always do the right thing
Make it a great day!
