Good morning,
When I started my own business a little over 2 years ago, I experienced many feelings and emotions that I would imagine only one who has taken the same risk could understand. Excitement and hesitancy, along with anxiety and fear, but so joyful I could hardly stand it! I knew I was getting into something that I was born to do, and my passion and faith kept me on the right path.
After just 90 days into my journey, however, I felt something was missing. When I was with corporate America, I always had someone, or a body of people, that I could bounce things of off, share thoughts and ideas, brainstorm, or just sit and have coffee and talk about the latest market trends and how they would affect our business.
As I contemplated this, I began reaching out to women who owned their own business to see if they were in the same situation, and if it made sense to create a board, a council, a mastermind of sorts, of businesswomen entrepreneurs to come together and be that sounding board for one another. Some of you may ask why just women? It is because women work with a different type of balance than men and we support each other in a different way. And sometimes, well, men really just don’t get us, and women always do. It’s just that simple.
This past Friday morning I sat around the table and looked at a truly amazing and inspiring group of powerful women that are my Advisory Council. In just under 8 months, we have created a place where magic happens. Where we come together with one powerful purpose in mind, to supercharge our businesses and elevate our minds. We take this magic and share it amongst each other. It makes us stronger, better people and empowers us to pay it forward in both our personal and professional lives.
I knew some, but not all of these women when we started. They came to me through friends and referrals. We have created something that is destined for great things, as a group, and individually. My thought was a business venture, and it will grow into so much more for all of us. I do know one thing for certain; we will be life long friends.
So today, I ask you, Who Is Your Board? Every leader should have a Board of Directors that they can utilize that is not their “corporate” board. Take sometime to think about whom you would want to give your support and accountability to in the things you do in both your professional and personal life, and those that could give it back……..then go make it happen! It will change your life.
