What’s Important

Monday, December 2, 2013

Good morning ,

Yes, it is already December!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends, of course those that don’t work retail and that didn’t have to go in and stand on their feet all day and night and wait on people wanting to save a few pennies.

I know we are in the middle of a series about the 42 Rules to Lead, by the man who Defined Google’s Product Strategy, Jonathan Rosenberg, but I thought it most appropriate since it is the time of Thanksgiving, that we take a short break this week to talk about what is really important, and that is family, friends and the things we are thankful for.

I don’t know about you, but I do have to say that stores opening on Thanksgiving night to me are totally inappropriate.  Can we not just all relax after a great Turkey Trot run (if you live in Dallas), a wonderful dinner with family and friends, watch a little football, and enjoy the day playing games, napping, or just visiting with each other?

I was so disappointed to learn that companies had pulled people away from family and friends to make them go into work on a day that has clearly been marked for centuries to spend at home, or at least not at work.  It has always been tradition to take both Thursday and Friday off from corporate America so we can kick off the Holiday Season, get up early for Black Friday and then spend the weekend putting up Holiday decorations.

Let’s get back to our traditions of family and friends and what is truly important during the Holiday Season.  It is time, no it is past time, to throw out the commercialization and be thankful for what we have and to enjoy it without all the interruptions.

I did.  I hope you did as well!

I hope you continue to have a blessed Holiday Season!
