This past week, we said goodbye to our two sweet labs, Lily (17) and Abby (14). They were mother and daughter, and in life they were inseparable and went together in death. The love of a dog is so much more than an owner/pet relationship, and I know if you are not a dog person, you won’t understand. But what I share is real.
“Our girls”, as I always lovingly referred to them, were rescued by us 12 years ago when they escaped from a puppy mill. They had more personality than most people I know, where smart as a whip and knew each and every time you needed them there. They were two very different dogs; Lily was a people person and always wanted to give you kisses, and Abby was very independent and really didn’t want anything to do with you unless you could throw a frisbee. But they knew they had been rescued.
As they aged, they calmed and settled into a life of unconditional love. Both giving and receiving. Dogs know your deepest, darkest secrets, never judge you and have an incredibly intimate relationship with their owners. Both girls had things that made them set in their ways, but at the same time, you could always teach a dog new tricks. They were flexible and happy to change their ways if it made us happy. Never underestimate the love of a dog (or any pet for that matter). They want nothing more than to please you, and in return we loved them more than I can explain. They were family, although 4 legged furry family, make no mistake they were our family.
My sweet girls. They have left a hole in my heart and I miss them terribly. I know there is a heaven, and they are waiting for me on that Rainbow Bridge, with my sweet dogs that have gone before them, Bo, Charlie, Hudson and Emma, and oh what a reunion that day will be!
Make it a great day!

This puts a hole in my heart as well, as I have a six year old puggle of my own. I can’t imagine the sadness of your loss. My prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.
